Upcoming Free Lectures – 5 Feb 2017

Sunday 5th February 2017.
Venue: Ross Lecture Theatre, Physics Building UWA

Dr Michael Birrell will present two free lectures.

1:30pm -Merida: A Roman city in Spain
The ancient Roman city of Augusta Emerita. today known as Merida, is one of the best preserved Roman cities in Spain. It was founded in 25 BC by the legate Publius Carisius and acquired an impressive forum, theatre, amphitheatre and hippodrome.

2:30pm – Afternoon Tea.

3:00pm -The Library of Alexandria
The famed library of Alexandria was begun by Ptolemy I who conceived of a centre where all knowledge could be collected. The library was partially burned during the siege of the city by Julius Caesar and the collection replaced by Mark Antony who took scrolls from Pergamum in Anatolia.

    Hi There

    Thank you for the new post for this first event for 2017 which I am looking forward to attending very much.

    I see that the date provided is Saturday the 5th , however, my calendar indicates that Sunday is the 5th of February 2017.

    Can I take it you mean the 4th February 2017?
